Communication in terrestrial systems has reached its peak with 5G technolologies. 6G will look to expand into areas where digital information has not reached. 6G may include nanoscale communications, which is a new technical area designated by IEEE. We investigate how to communicate at the nano-scale for a variety of safety, healthcare, and security purposes. In particular, communicating using molecules has many advantages over radio waves due to its intrinsic physics of avoiding wave diffraction and absorption. Molecules can penetrate, navigate, and diffuse through a wide range of complex nano-scale topologies to achieve information delivery. The main challlenges addressed in this talk are: (1) biophysical and fluid dynamic channel models, (2) achieving reliable information transmisison in these multi-scale mediums, (3) building towards communication systems and integration with wider digital ecosystems, and (4) applications.  The cross-disciplinary area requires understanding and collaboration between signal processing, communication theory, computer science, fluid mechanics, and biology.
